Abia 2023: Court nullifies APGA governorship primary election

Chris Azubogu, a member of the House of Representatives, had his nomination as the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) candidate for the Senate seat representing Anambra South Senatorial District invalidated by a Federal High Court in Abuja.

Abia’s APGA gubernatorial primary election of May 29, 2022, was declared null and void on Thursday by Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court in Abuja.

In light of this, the trial court has mandated that a new primary election be held within 14 days.

Chief Chikwe Udensi filed the lawsuit challenging Professor Greg Ibe’s apparent victory in the APGA gubernatorial primary election, and Justice Nyako issued the order in his ruling on the case.

The judge concluded that the May 29 APGA gubernatorial primary election in Abia state was “flawed and marred by irregularities” based on the facts and testimony of witnesses.

Despite losing the APGA primary election to Professor Ibe, Chief Udensi nevertheless decided to take his case to court.

To be more specific, Udensi wanted the court to either rule that he won the APGA gubernatorial primary election or order a new election to be held.
