Schools are commended academic establishments for the systematic imparting of knowledge. The various levels of schooling in the world today are the primary, or can also be called elementary, and the tertiary level. These terms vary in different countries and are known as high school, college, and university.

Every state that practices a capitalist system of government or mixed economy owns schools that can either be public or privately owned by individuals in every stage of academic knowledge acquisition. This implies that whether at the primary, secondary, or university level, it can be owned by the government and individuals.

What is a Private School?

Approved academic establishments owned, controlled, and funded by private persons contrary to the government are called private schools. In many nation-states, private persons have the right to establish, finance, and manage schools at any academic level they want. Even with this liberty, they must work in line with the laws of the state. In the private school system, the government does not mingle with issues of the school, nor do they assist with funds. The private school workers and teachers owe their responsibilities to the private school executives and the management and are not responsible to the government. The school management disburses their salaries and allowances.

It is generally known that private schools are expensive compared to public schools. It is simple to confirm this notion, as the maintenance and running of the school are arduous. Private school owners always depend on the income generated through the payment of fees and levies. Most other times, revenue can be generated through donations by a philanthropist to the school. Funds can also be generated in the private school through the operations of canteens and other investments.

What is a Public School?

Public schools are funded, owned, and established by the government. The government is concerned and involves itself in the business of the academy. The teachers and workers in public schools are knowns as public workers. The public workers receive their salaries from the government. The people that manage the public schools are referred to as the representative of the government and the whole citizens. They are accountable to the state or federal government, as the case may be.

They are operated using state policies, even though the government offers maximum interference. The government owns the full responsibility for financing the school. In general, government school is more affordable and less expensive than private school as the government channel a subsidy to the school by constructing classrooms, blocks, and facilities, outlaying salaries to the employees. Also, they develop revenues from grants and assets. The public school is said to be public as no identified person is the owner but the government. Some public schools sometimes get handed over to private individuals and vice versa.

Difference Between Private School and Public School

Public schools get administered and financed by the government as the government owns the civil responsibility to finance the government-maintained schools and disburse salaries to all its workers and teachers. In the private school system, the school expenses are handled from the money from the student’s school fees and levies. Public school is more affordable than private school since the government manages it. The reason for this is that the government handles all the expenses of the school, such as the payment of salaries and allowance; they also run projects in the school. A private school on its side relies entirely on the fees paid by its students and levies. Governments do not intervene in matters concerning private schools when it comes to financing. This makes the tuition fees of private schools to be costly and only affordable to some.

Private schools usually adhere to only some public holidays declared by the government. Public schools are bound to adhere to all public holidays declared by the government. This alone exposes the little interference the government has on private schools. The private school executives appoint their teachers and workers, meaning terminating their jobs is very easy. In public schools, the appointment of teachers is made by the government. This shows that only the government owns the right to employ and terminate its workers’ appointments. The termination of jobs is rarely done in government schools but is rampant in the private school system. In some cases, free education can only be done in public schools, as the government may choose to run a free education scheme covering some levels of education. In private schools, they know nothing about free education, which has never been practised before. Free education done in private schools only on limited head counts can be understood as scholarships
