Hon Sunday Agwu, an adviser to Governor David Umahi and the coordinator of the Ishielu Development Centre in the Ishielu local government area of Ebonyi State, has been killed in a car crash on the Enugu-Abakaliki Road.
The unfortunate event that made the people of the Ezillo community and Ishielu council sad happened on Sunday during the Christmas celebrations.
The untimely passing of Agwu was lamented by the council chairman, Hon. Obinna Onwe praised him as a team player, philanthropist, and skilled administrator.
According to Onwe, the coordinator is going to the village to spend Christmas with the less privileged people there.
He said the state and the council had suffered a significant loss with Agwu’s passing, and he urged the family to find solace in God since He alone is aware of the true motivations behind all things in this world.
Overspeeding was suspected as a contributing factor; however, it had not been confirmed as of the time this report was filed. Unconfirmed reports state that the fatality occurred when the victim was driving his vehicle on the Enugu-Abakaliki Road.
Agwu’s body was reportedly taken to the mortuary yesterday morning after he passed away while undergoing treatment at a hospital.
The loss of this stalwart of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state may hurt the APC’s chances in the council elections scheduled for next year.
Several weeks earlier, another governor’s aide was shot and killed in Anambra State by people believed to be kidnappers.
Barrister Leonard Chibuzor Alegu, a member of the Ebonyi State House of Assembly Service Commission, was shot and killed by assailants who remain at large.
It was said that the event occurred on the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway in the Umunya community, Oyi local government area, of Anambra State, late on the night of December 17.
