Federal High Court appoints nine new judges

Justice John Terhemba Tsoho, the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, announced the appointment of nine new judges for the court on Friday. These nine new judges are in addition to the 15 justices previously authorised.

According to a statement released by the court’s Assistant Director of Information, Catherine Oby Christopher, the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) and Chairman of National Judicial Council (NJC), Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, approved the appointment of nine additional judges, in addition to the fifteen judges already approved.

The Federal High Court announced in a statement that it would shortly begin reviewing candidates for probable appointment to the Bench in Bayelsa, Ebonyi, Gombe, Ogun, and Oyo.

“In line with the NJC Guidelines and Procedural Rules for Appointment of Judicial Officers of Superior Courts, the Honourable Chief Judge, therefore, invites Your Lordships, the Hon. Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice and the President Nigerian Bar Association to kindly nominate suitably qualified persons from the aforementioned States for appointment to the Federal High Court Bench.

“All recommendations are to reach the Chambers of the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court on or before 28 February 2023.”
