Four AK47s recovered from ‘bandit’ in Kaduna

When contacted by newsmen, on Monday, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the Lagos State police spokesman, confirmed the finding.

The Police Command in Kaduna State says its agents have apprehended a suspected bandit and gunrunner and confiscated four AK-47 weapons with 344 rounds of ammunition and the suspect’s operational motorcycle in Kaduna.

On December 23 at around 17:30 hrs, operatives attached to Tudun Wada Zaria were conducting surveillance patrol in the Kwarkwaron Manu, Basawa area of the Zaria metropolitan when they came across two men riding an unregistered motorcycle carrying bags, according to a statement released yesterday by Command Spokesman Muhammad Jalige.

“On being flagged down for search, the motorcycle passenger jumped down and fled, thereby heightening the suspicion of the operatives.

“The motorcycle and the rider, who gave his identity as one Bilyaminu Saidu, aged 33 years of Shuwaki village, Bakori LGA of Katsina State, were immediately subjected to a thorough search which led to his arrest.

“The items recovered included four AK47 rifles, 344 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition, telephones and charms,” he said.

Jalige reported that the suspect had been apprehended and that initial inquiries showed he and his fugitive companion had been on a criminal expedition to provide the offensive weapons to their gang.
