Gunmen kill two security guards, cut off head, hand in Ondo

At least three police officers were killed on Sunday when gunmen stormed a roadblock in Enugu State, according to authorities and locals. This is the latest violent incident in an area where separatist tensions are high.

Two security guards have been shot and killed in Ikare-Akoko, Akoko Northeast Local Government Area, Ondo State.

Findings show that the gunmen attacked government-owned buildings in the Ikare-Akoko city, including the Mimiko Market and the NASFAT Schools, where they murdered the guards and left their mutilated bodies in a pool of blood.

A source said the gunmen struck at midnight on Friday, while the bodies were discovered in the pool of blood on Saturday.

The shooters beheaded one of the guards and laid his severed head next to his body while they severed the other man’s hand and set it down nearby.

The attackers reportedly took nothing from the bodies before fleeing the scene, and how the accused bandits carried out the attack lends credence to the theory that they were carrying out a ritual murder, according to the source.

The state’s PPRO, SP Olufunmilayo Odunlami, confirmed the occurrence, saying that the police had taken the body and placed it in the morgue of the state speciality hospital in Ikare-Akoko.

The event is being investigated, and the perpetrators will be apprehended shortly, the PPRO promised.
