Man in court for ‘stealing’ neighbor’s N250, 000

Simeon Samson, a 43-year-old man from Ogun, was brought before an Ota Magistrate's Court on Tuesday on charges of using counterfeit money.

Micheal Peter, a 26-year-old man, was charged with stealing N250,000 from a neighbour and appeared in a Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday.

Peter, a resident of Ali Akilu Road, Kaduna, was arrested and charged with conspiracy, theft, and burglary.

Insp. Chidi Leo, the prosecutor, testified that the defendant committed the crime on November 6 in Kaduna.

He said that Peter plotted with two other people who were still at large and stole jewellery, shirts, and a generator that belonged to his neighbour, Julius Isaiah.

He said the crime violated Articles 401, 271, and 308 of the 2017 Kaduna State Penal Code.

But the defendant entered a not guilty plea to all three counts.

The Magistrate, Ibrahim Emmanuel, gave the defendant bail in the amount of N100,000 with two sureties in the same amount.

Emmanuel stated that the sureties must be residents and set the next hearing for January 11, 2023.
