Police rescue 15 hostages in Zamfara

When contacted by newsmen, on Monday, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the Lagos State police spokesman, confirmed the finding.

The Zamfara State Police Command has successfully rescued at least fifteen hostages.

The victims were taken by the bandits on Tuesday, off the road between Gusau and Funtua.

Muhammad Shehu, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO),  said that once the command learned of the kidnappings, they immediately dispatched a rescue operation and a confidence-building patrol unit.

According to the PPRO, the criminals withdrew and escaped into the forest after a fierce gun duel, leaving the hostages behind.

A total of 15 people, including seven women, six men, and two children, were rescued by the operation team’s police officers, he said.

The PPRO continued by saying the victims had received a thorough medical examination and met with the police commissioner to provide more information for an intelligence report.

He promised that the rescued hostages would soon be reunited with their loved ones as quickly as possible.
