Terrorists kill three, take six hostages in Katsina

Local resident Mohammed Hassan said that Col. Yandoto (rtd) was abducted by bandits on Sunday evening while travelling to his hometown with his two children.

Terrorists struck the village of Jajar Kanwa in the Jibia Local Government Area of Katsina State early on Tuesday morning, killing three and kidnapping six others.

Terrorists broke into a home at around 2:00 a.m. and made off with many animals and goods, including cash, electronics, and food.

According to a local source, the terrorists rode on motorcycles carrying sophisticated weaponry.

He claimed that three people were slain by the terrorists, one of which was a woman who worked at the community clinic.

The number of individuals injured during the incident was high, the source added, both from the terrorist’s actions and from people’s attempts to escape.

He said that among the six kidnapped people was a married pregnant woman and that they were all taken into the forest.

He claimed that the terrorists had warned the locals to pay out the sum of N20,000 each within a week of their departure or face dire consequences.

He expressed dismay that most locals were peasant farmers and questioned where they would get the necessary N20,000 by next Tuesday.

Many people in the village were apparently in mortal danger. Therefore the source appealed to government and security officials to intervene.

The incident was confirmed by the state police command’s spokesperson, SP Gambo Isah, who added that two deaths and three injuries were the worst-case scenarios.

“Yes, two killed and three injured. Due to the ongoing operations in Sokoto and Zamfara axis, large number of terrorists – bandits are trooping into Katsina through Zamfara,” Isah said.

“It was while they were coming in, attacked some villagers at Kanwar Jaja, Jibia LGA. They killed two and injured three. But no kidnapping took place.

“I assure you that security forces are presently engaging them, rooting them out from their hideouts in the state.”
