Teacher kidnaps pupil, demands N200,000 ransom

The Nigeria Police Force says its investigation shows that Boko Haram, Ansaru and other terror groups are getting support from some Nigerians.

A 29-year-old teacher, Odugbesan Ayodele Samson, has been arrested by the Police in Ogun State for allegedly kidnapping his 8-year-old former pupil, Rasaq Akeeb.

The suspect reportedly abducted Akeeb on Wednesday, November 4 and demanded N200,000 ransom from his mother to release him.

The Police Public Relations Officer in Ogun, Abimbola Oyeyemi, confirmed this on yesterday in Abeokuta.

He said the mother of the victim, Fatimat Akeeb, lodged a complaint at Ajuwon Divisional Police Headquarters that her son was abducted from his school at Arifanla area of Akute.

She told the police that she received a phone call from the suspect, who instructed her to pay the sum of N200,000 to secure her son’s release.

Oyeyemi said police detectives immediately launch intelligence-based investigation, which led to the discovery of the suspect’s hideout.

“In order not to harm the victim, the suspect was lured out with part payment of the ransom and he was subsequently apprehended and he took the police detectives to where he kept the victim and the victim was rescued unhurt,” Oyeyemi said.

When interrogated, the police spokesperson said the suspect confessed to committing the crime but blamed it on devil.

The Commissioner of Police, Edward Awolowo Ajogun, had ordered the immediate transfer of the suspect to anti-kidnapping unit of the state criminal investigation and intelligence department for further investigation and prosecution, Oyeyemi added.
