Terrorists kill three vigilantes, injure many in Niger community

Gunmen in the early hours of Friday stormed Birshin Fulani, a suburb of Bauchi metropolis, and kidnapped a nursing mother of three children, Mrs Rukayyat Odedoyin.

Terrorists have killed the Commander of the vigilantes in Kpada community in Lapai local government area of Niger state, Danladi Dobbo and two members of the outfit.

They were killed in an attack on the community on Friday afternoon, which left several others injured.

The terrorists also burnt a tractor used for farming activities during the attack.

It was learnt that the Vigilantes were ambushed during a rescue mission.

Apart from the three Vigilantes confirmed dead, there were indications others have been killed in the bush with their bodies yet to be evacuated.

Niger Police Public Relations Officer (PPRP) DSP Wasiu Abiodun could not be reached at the time of filing the report.

Niger Commissioner for Internal Security, Emmanuel Umar confirmed the attack but urged the community not to go after the bandits in the forest.

He said security personnel have been drafted to the forest to help recover the bodies of those killed in the attack.

He said the operatives were on the trail of the terrorists adding that some of the terrorists have been apprehended by the Joint Security Force while some kidnapped victims have been rescued unhurt.
