Justice Ibrahim Tanko Mohammed

The Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Tanko Ibrahim Muhammad, has resigned from his position, reportedly on health grounds.

The CJN’s Special Assistant on Media, Mr Isah Ahuraka confirmed this to newsmen.

Newsmen report that President Muhammad’s Buhari swore in Tanko as CJN in January 2019 following the suspension and later sack of former CJN Walter Onnoghen.

He was expected to resign in December 2024, when he will clock 70.

Olukayode Ariwoola, the next most senior Justice of the Supreme Court, who hails from Oyo State, is expected to be sworn in in acting capacity following the exit of Muhammad.
