Kano auto crash: 12 passengers burnt to death

At least 12 persons were confirmed burnt to death in a fatal auto crash on Monday along the Kano-Zaria highway in Kano State.

The Kano State Fire Service said the incident involving two commercial buses occurred at Tsamawa town in Garun Mallam Local Government Area of the state, about 40 kilometres away from the city’s capital.

Spokesman to the service Saminu Yusuf stated that the accident hit the sleeping town when two buses went up in flames after colliding with each other.

“Our men from Kura reached the area at about 15:12 hours and found that two commercial vehicles, a Hiace bus had collided with a J5 and both with unknown registration numbers were engulfed in fire.

“12 persons were involved; 11 in the Hiace bus which was coming from Zaria road to Kano and one person inside the J5 heading towards Zaria from Kano. All victims were rescued unconscious and found dead by the Fire Service. Their names and ages have not been identified,” Saminu noted.
