Osun government begins palliative on roads, drainage

The Osun State Government has commenced plans to repair and rehabilitate critical roads and drainage in major towns and the rural areas before the commencement of rainy season.

Dredging of drainage, water-ways and river-crossing will also be undertaken, Supervisor for Works, Science and Innovation Remi Omowaiye said yesterday.

He spoke in Ejigbo after a tour of waterways and roads to be fixed.

According to a statement by Adeniyi Adesina, Chief Press Secretary to the governor, speaker of the House of Assembly Najeem Salam and Federal Commissioner National Population Commission (NPC) Senator Mudashir Hussain, who are indigenes of Ejigbo, were on the inspection team.

A team had earlier visited Ikire, Ede, Ikoyi and Apomu to identify the roads to be upgraded before the rainy season.

The inspections are being carried out in line with the directive of Governor Gboyega Oyetola that council chairmen across the 30 local government areas should identify critical roads of economic importance for repair and rehabilitation.

During the inspection of roads in Ikire, Apomu, Ikoyi and Ede, Deputy Governor Mr Benedict Alabi ‎said the intervention on roads was in fulfilment of the Oyetola administration’s plan to turn Osun to the infrastructure hub of the Southwest.

He said the projects will open a window of sustainable socio-economic development for Osun State

Alabi added: “Today is significant because it gives birth to mass road revolution in the annals of the present administration led by Governor Gboyega Oyetola.

“Having realized the challenges posed to our economy due to deplorable roads in the state, the administration of Governor Oyetola has resolved to embark on immediate repair of roads that require urgent intervention.

“This exercise is not only meant for mass road rehabilitation but it is also designed to creating new outlets in the rural areas as new roads will be opened up to improve flow of interaction and free movement of goods and services particularly at the rural areas.”

“This project is commencing immediately across the state and we are hoping that in the next 60 days much would have been achieved.

“Starting from today; we are commencing full rehabilitation, repair and grading of all critical roads that require serious intervention

“This is a war against bad and deplorable roads in Osun. It is a serious revolution in the infrastructure sector in Osun to ensure that all the roads in the state are motorable”.

Omowaye who said the initiative is in line with social intervention programmes of the Oyetola’s administration, contented that the poroject will put an end to deplorable road in the state.
