Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim: APC, PDP playing politics with national security

The presidential candidate of the People’s Trust, Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim, has accused the All Progressives Congress and the Peoples Democratic Party of playing politics with national security.

He criticised the two political parties for allegedly turning the recent killing of soldiers by Boko Haram in Metele, Borno State to a political issue.

Olawepo-Hashim spoke in Abuja on Thursday while delivering a keynote address at the first anniversary of the Nigeria Intervention Movement otherwise known as Movement for Credible Political Alternatives.

“The basic decency Africans give to loss of lives has been lost to the gruesome way politics is played by the two political parties.

“The debate must shift to how to secure lives and properties of the people and to give them good governance,” he said.

The candidate said Nigeria could not do much to eradicate poverty, unemployment and other challenges with a $510bn economy.

“Our party would work to build a $4tn economy within a few years. No matter how efficient you are in managing resources, a $510bn economy is too small to deliver Nigeria,” Olawepo-Hashim said.

The Chairman of NIM, Olisa Agbakoba (SAN), said the movement would soon begin door-to-door campaigns to sensitise the people on the need for a third force.

The co-chairman, Dr Abdul-Jeleel Tafawa-Balewa, said it was unfortunate that Nigeria with over 60 mineral elements was lagging behind.

Also, the Director-General of NIM, Olawale Okunniyi, said the movement would work towards producing a consensus candidate among allied political parties to take over the reins of power next year.

“We would produce a candidate that would serve the interest of Nigeria and not the pockets of a few,” he said.
