The Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to display high level of neutrality in the conducts of the forthcoming general elections while reminding the electoral umpire of the importance of free, fair and credible elections in any democratic dispensation.
This was one of the high-points of a communiqué issued at the end of LCCI council meeting held earlier this month in Lagos.
The council underscored the critical importance of the neutrality of INEC, the security agencies and the Judiciary in the electoral process, stressing that a peaceful environment is crucial for political stability, economic progress, social stability and societal cohesion.
“No significant investment will take place in an environment that is politically and socially unstable”, the council noted.
The council also deliberated on the alleged freezing of bank accounts of tax defaulters by the Federal Inland Revenues Service (FIRS) and noted with grave concern the implications of the actions on the economy.
