Badara Alieu Joof, the Vice President of The Gambia, has passed away in India, as reported by President Adama Barrow.
Mr Barrow did not say whether or if the vice president was receiving medical care in India before his death.
For a considerable time, Mr Joof disappeared from public view, as reported by BBC’s Omar Wally in Banjul, the capital.
After re-election to a second term in December 2021, Mr Barrow appointed him vice president.
A dissatisfied Mr Joof told reporters in June that “business as usual” would not bring about meaningful change and that the Gambians had high expectations for their government.
