According to the newspaper ‘Mundo Deportivo’, Ez Abde is in talks with the Moroccan national team and his coaching staff to avoid playing in the Africa Cup and stay at Barcelona with the intention of taking advantage of the confidence that Xavi Hernandez is giving him.
On 23rd December, news broke of Abde’s call-up to the Morocco national team for the Africa Cup of Nations. It was a ‘blow’ for Xavi, as he will lose if he finally goes, another important player in the last few weeks.
What is clear is that neither Barcelona can prohibit him from travelling to Cameroon, nor can the player refuse it because of the clear FIFA regulations, so what would free the striker is to be left out of the list or for Morocco to release him.
For this reason, according to ‘Mundo Deportivo’, the Barcelona player is in talks and negotiations with the Moroccan national team to get his release from the call-up.
Abde is grateful for the opportunity given to him by coach Vahid Halihodzic, but his arguments are weighty and he is seeking the understanding of the federation and the coaching staff.
Abde asks to be allowed to take advantage of the moment and the confidence that Xavi Hernandez has given him to show that he can have a place in the first team, especially before the arrival of Ferran Torres and the return of players like Ansu Fati and Depay.
Abde understands that a month away is too long and that he would lose the role Xavi is giving him at a delicate moment, as the Africa Cup is played from 9th January to 6th February,
For his part, coach Vahid Halihodzic assured that the player is “impatient” to play and that he is “proud to play for Morocco”, but also explained that they will talk “with the people in charge of his team” to reach “a friendly agreement”.
