Bundesliga side, Borussia Dortmund, have confirmed that Erling Haaland, their impressive striker, has sustained a hamstring injury.

Bundesliga side, Borussia Dortmund, have confirmed that Erling Haaland, their impressive striker, has sustained a hamstring injury.

The Norway international was not included in the Dortmund squad for Wednesday’s UEFA Champions League clash with Lazio at the Signal Iduna Park.

The club took to Twitter to confirm that the 20-year-old has a muscle problem, which was reportedly sustained in training. It comes as a blow for Lucien Favre’s side, who need to avoid a defeat to Lazio to secure qualification to the knockout stages.

With 16 goals in the competition at a rate of one every 56 minutes, Haaland has the best average of any player with at least 10 goals in the competition. Three more goals and he will equal Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s record of 19 for a Norwegian player.

The ex-Salzburg striker has also netted 10 times for Dortmund in eight Bundesliga appearances in the 2020-21 season. As a result of his razor-sharp form, Dortmund sit four points behind leaders Bayern Munich after nine games.

Now, without his contributions, after Wednesday’s tie against Lazio, they face Eintracht Frankfurt in the Bundesliga on Saturday before next Tuesday’s final Champions League group game against Zenit St. Petersburg.
